India’s three-Test series against Sri Lanka will begin with a three-day warm-up match against a Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Chairman’s XI at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo from August 6 to 8. The Test matches are scheduled in Galle and Colombo, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and SLC confirmed in a joint statement on Thursday (July 9).
The Indian team will arrive in the country on August 3. The first Test will be at the Galle International Stadium from August 12 to 16, with the second scheduled from August 20 to 24 at the P Sara Oval in Colombo. The third and final Test will be at SSC in Colombo from August 28 to September 1.
The second Test will mark Kumar Sangakkara’s farewell, with the Sri Lanka veteran set to call it a day after that match.
The joint announcement puts to rest any doubt over the series proceeding as planned. Initially, there were apprehensions on whether the tour would take place with SLC having a contract with the Essel Group-owned Ten Sports channel. However, this particular India series was not in the package SLC had signed with the channel, and on Tuesday, SLC confirmed that the rights for this series had been sold to Sony Six, owned by MSM India.
