Ishant, Mishra return; Shami is lone new face

Ishant Sharma made a return to the Twenty20 International set-up and Shami Ahmed was drafted into the One-Day International squad as India’s selectors named separate 15-member squads for the T20I and ODI series against Pakistan beginning later this week.

Ishant last played a T20I in 2009, and hasn’t played a limited-overs game for India since June 2011, but has been included in both the squads and is the senior-most fast bowler after Zaheer Khan was overlooked for the ODI series.

Virender Sehwag and Zaheer, who had made themselves unavailable for the T20Is against England, again don’t feature in the Twenty20 squad to take on Pakistan, though Sehwag has been included in the ODI squad.

The only new face is Shami, the right-arm medium-pacer from Bengal. Amit Mishra, the Haryana leg-spinner who like Ishant last played an ODI in June 2011, made a comeback to the ODI squad.

The only change to the Twenty20 squad from the one that took on England was Ishant’s inclusion ahead of Abhimanyu Mithun. Mithun had replaced an injured R Vinay Kumar, who himself had been a replacement for Lakshmipathi Balaji. Mithun didn’t play either of the T20Is against England.

Ambati Rayudu, who had been included in the squad for the England T20Is in place of the injured Manoj Tiwary, kept his place.

The T20I series begins in Bangalore on December 25, while the first of the three ODIs will be played in Chennai on December 30. Kolkata will host the second ODI on January 3, 2013 and the final ODI will be in New Delhi on January 6.
