The Indian Premier League 2013 schedule has undergone a revision with ten matches involving seven franchises rescheduled. The changes follow from the decision to move two of the Royal Challengers Bangalore matches due to the Karnataka assembly elections that will be held on May 5.

Most of the rescheduled matches have moved to fresh venues on different dates. Some matches will only have a change in the start time, moving from an afternoon start (4:00 pm) to an evening start (8:00 pm) due to the originally scheduled second match of the day moving.

The only franchises whose matches have not been affected by the rescheduling are Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals.

Several of the Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab matches, including the two where both teams would have faced each other at home and away, have also been rescheduled. Franchise officials from both teams told Wisden India that they believed the rescheduling was simply a “domino effect” taking place after the RCB matches had to be moved.

Sundar Raman, the IPL chief executive, also indicated that the other matches moved were a result of reorganising the RCB matches. “Karnataka elections – reschedule… matches RCB vs KXIP from 4th may moves to 14th may & RCB v sunrises fm 6th may move s to 9th apr… Few other changes as a result,” said Raman on his twitter channel.

The changes in India’s backroom staff will:

  • Help the team do better in the limited-overs matches
  • Have no effect, the team is demoralised
  • Are cosmetic and essentially knee-jerk reactions
  • Finally put pressure on Duncan Fletcher to justify his presence
