Australia is 5-177 in reply to England’s first innings total of 280 at stumps on Day 2 of the Commonwealth Bank Women’s Ashes Series Test match at North Sydney Oval.
Australia started the day needing to claim three English wickets and it wasn’t long before Megan Schutt (2-52) struck, removing Fran Wilson (13) followed shortly after by Anya Shrubsole (0).
Fellow speedster Ellyse Perry (3-59) then dismissed Laura Marsh to end England’s first innings on 280.
Openers Beth Mooney (27) and Nicole Bolton (24) took a watchful approach as they negotiated England’s opening bowlers before both fell within six runs of one another.
Ellyse Perry and Alex Blackwell then came to the crease, and whilst the vice-captain was only able to add six runs to the total, Perry looked solid in her unbeaten knock of 70.
Captain Rachael Haynes dug deep for her 33 before falling to Katherine Brunt late in the day, with Alyssa Healy (1*) making it through to stumps alongside Perry.
