Like a box of assorted chocolates, the tweets doing the buzz on Sunday (September 17) offered a wide variety, ranging from the inspiring and celebratory to the bizarre.

Let’s start with the inspiring. It was a repeat of the World Badminton Championship final, though with the result reversed, happily from an Indian point of view. PV Sindhu won her third Super Series title, the Korean Open, after a thrilling encounter against Nozomi Okuhara in Seoul.

While Sindhu was earning accolades, Australia’s new-ball bowlers put the Indian batsmen under the pump in the first One-Day International in Chennai. But Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who walked out to a rousing welcome, spared the hosts the blushes.

He wasn’t alone, though. Hardik Pandya was as much at home as was Dhoni.

Local lad and birthday boy R Ashwin was missing in action, but his colleagues, past and present, sent their wishes.

It was also the birthday of Narendra Modi, India’s Prime Minister.

Back to cricket, and Australia’s bowlers were on top of their game with Nathan Coulter-Nile doing bulk of the damage.

He may have retired from Test cricket, but JP Duminy has “got plenty left in the tank.”

Meanwhile, tributes poured in for Air Marshal Arjan Singh.

Sri Lanka Cricket’s fixing sanctions were beyond Mahela Jayawadene’s understanding.

And Chris Gayle provided his usual dose of laughter.
