The third One-Day International between Sri Lanka and Pakistan at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday was abandoned due to rain.

In the little play that was possible, Pakistan, batting after winning the toss, reached 12 for the loss of two wickets from 6.2 overs. Mohammad Hafeez (0) and Azhar Ali (7), the openers, were the batsmen dismissed. Lasith Malinga and Nuwan Kulasekera picked up a wicket each.

The rain came in spells, first delaying the start of the match by a few minutes, then forcing the players off the field after Malinga had bowled the first ball of the match, and then, finally, after 29 more minutes of play during which the Sri Lanka bowlers had wrested the upper hand.

The wash out left the series at 1-1 after Pakistan won the first ODI by six wickets and Sri Lanka won the second by 76 runs. Both earlier matches were played at the Pallekele International Stadium.

The fourth ODI is scheduled for June 16 at the R Premadasa Stadium.
