Sri Lanka will look for a new fast bowling coach after Chaminda Vaas decided not to seek an extension of his contract with Sri Lanka Cricket which ended on Thursday (April 30).

Vaas had been appointed national fast bowling coach in February 2013 for a two-year period. With the contract lapsing, it was decided mutually not to go in for an extension, SLC said in a statement.

A crop of young fast bowlers have emerged over the last couple of years but they have all been plagued by injuries, making it difficult to determine the exact impact Vaas had in his role. The former left-arm pacer, Sri Lanka’s second-highest wicket-taker in international cricket after Muttiah Muralitharan, had taken over from Champaka Ramanayake, expected to be in the running to return to his former role.
