    Profile

Hailing from the same school (St Joseph’s College) that has produced quality cricketers like Chaminda Vaas and Angelo Mathews, Thisara Perera has proved to be an effective hard-hitting, quick-scoring batsman and penetrating seam bowler whose style of play is best suited to the limited-overs versions of the game. Perera burst on the scene with a bang with two five-wicket hauls in his first few one-day internationals, both against India. A great finisher, he scored 16 runs off three deliveries to inflict a first Twenty20 international defeat on Australia at home. His whippy action and height allow him to move the ball quickly at some pace and obtain disconcerting bounce, making him quite a handful in these days when two new balls are in vogue in ODIs.
