    Profile

Another of Australia’s emerging troupe of young fast bowlers, Mitchell Starc offers his country’s attack a welcome left-arm point of difference. A product of New South Wales’ unceasing production line, Starc is already of international calibre but has obvious room for development. He bowls with a beautifully fluid action, structured around a measured approach and an explosive, strong-shouldered delivery stride. So heavy is his stock delivery, as he becomes more skilful at manipulating the ball both ways in the air, that he has the potential to become one of Australia’s great left-arm pacemen. Starc emerged on the professional scene in 2009 and through injuries to state and international teammates, quickly rose through the ranks. Such is the depth of fast-bowling competition that his chances could be limited in the near future but his different angle of delivery, as well as his capacity to play all formats, will not harm his cause. Playing amongst so many established stars with New South Wales will ensure time spent away from the international set-up will not be wasted and as a key member of the Big Bash winning Sydney Sixers, Starc will gain valuable experience in the Champions League Twenty20 Competition.
