    Profile

Small of stature but with a large heart, Amit Mishra is a leg-spinner in the traditional mould – keen to give the ball some air and an almighty rip. As is necessary for a man of his trade Mishra does not cringe from occasionally being attacked by batsmen. Most of his first-class career overlapped with the time of Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh at helm in Indian cricket, and for this reason Mishra rarely got a sustained run at the highest level. When he did get a chance, against Australia at Mohali in 2008, Mishra grabbed it with both hands, becoming only the sixth Indian to take five wickets or more on debut. Less successful in the fifty-over format, Mishra has only played 15 ODIs in nine years. In Twenty20 cricket though, Mishra has held his own, first with the Delhi Daredevils and later for the Deccan Chargers. With batsmen in all-out attack mode Mishra's variations, in particular his well-disguised googly, have held him in good stead. While his batting has always been a force at the domestic level, Mishra showed what he was capable of in the Oval Test of 2011, scoring a striking 84 in a lost cause.
