    Profile

What began as a checkered career filled in equal measure with success and controversies, has blossomed into one that promises much at the international level. Ambati Rayudu was handed a long overdue opportunity with a One-Day International debut in July 2013, and since then, he has established himself as a regular in the limited-overs squads. He impressed the selectors enough to be part of India’s 2015 World Cup squad too, the only one who can fill in as wicketkeeper after MS Dhoni. Rayudu’s talent was never in question since his unbeaten 177 for India Under-19 against England in 2002 and his subsequent knocks of 210 and 159 not out for Hyderabad against Andhra in only his third Ranji Trophy match. But differences with the coach and the Hyderabad management meant that he shifted to Andhra before signing up with the now-defunct Indian Cricket League in 2007. Back in the mainstream after accepting BCCI’s amnesty offer, he has prospered at Mumbai Indians and Baroda.
