    Profile

Manish Pandey became an overnight star in IPL 2009 when he was promoted to open the batting for Royal Challengers Bangalore and hit the first century by an Indian in the tournament. He quickly showed that his batting wasn’t restricted to the slam-bang nature of Twenty20 cricket with a superb Ranji season culminating in a classic 144 against Mumbai in the final in a heart-breaking 6-run loss for Karnataka. After that, a national call-up didn’t seem too far off for Pandey, but he experienced a loss of form - particularly in limited-overs cricket and the subsequent IPL. Despite that, Bangalore were keen to retain him for the 2011 edition, but Pandey broke ranks to sign up with Pune Warriors India – a move that earned him a four-match ban. Pandey regained his form in the Ranji season later that year, but a further setback followed when he had to undergo a hernia operation in late 2011 immediately after hitting a double century against Mumbai. He recovered successfully, and continues to be a vital part of Karnataka with his batting and athletic fielding.
