    Profile

A nimble and agile wicketkeeper who has shown that his correct approach with the bat in days’ cricket does not inhibit him from scoring freely in the shorter versions of the game, Wriddhiman Saha has been among Bengal's brightest hopes since Sourav Ganguly retired from international cricket. Plying his trade at a time when MS Dhoni has been at the helm in the Indian team has limited Saha's international appearances, but now with the former captain’s Test retirement Saha is first in the queue to fill up the vacancy. Saha began his first-class career brightly, becoming only the 15th Bengal player to make a century on debut. A strong run in the Ranji Trophy in 2009-10, followed by last-minute injuries to VVS Laxman and Rohit Sharma handed Saha a surprise Test debut, as a specialist batsman, in the home series against South Africa in February 2010. Saha had to wait a considerable while for his second Test cap, and only a suspension for Dhoni enabled him to make it to the XI, at Adelaide in January 2012. Saha played for Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League before being picked up by Kings XI Punjab in 2014, and responded with a number of impressive shows with the bat, the highlight of which was a 66-ball 115 in the final, albeit in a losing cause.
