Four Karnataka players in Wisden India's Ranji XI
Vinay leads the team, with weight of a full season and key contributions in trying circumstances the chief criteria
As a debutant in the 2007-08 Ranji season, Samad Fallah was uncharitably dismissed as a beneficiary of a lax system, having not participated at the Under-19 and Under-22 level. His 34 wickets in the first season were brushed aside and instead accredited to beginner's luck. However, he continued to pick up wickets over the next few seasons and was eventually acknowledged as Maharashtra's premier seam bowler, with the high point being a 4 for 12 performance against Hyderabad in a low-scoring Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match in 2010. His performances impressed the Rajasthan Royals management who signed him up in 2011, hoping he could replicate the success of left-arm seamer Sohail Tanvir who helped them win the inaugural IPL.
