    Profile

Lahiru Thirimanne was for long considered the best young batsman in Sri Lanka, and his reputation as someone capable of finishing matches was quickly recognised when he was drafted into the national one-day international side in 2010. A year later, he made his Test debut against England at the Rose Bowl. Predominantly a No. 3 batsman for his club, he started off batting for Sri Lanka in the middle-order in 50-over matches, but an injury to Tillakaratne Dilshan necessitated his move up the order to open the batting in Test cricket. His technique against the new ball is not all that sound and he has crossed 50 only once in seven Tests, which has left his position in the Test side as an opener vulnerable.
