    Profile

Nuwan Pradeep is among the quickest bowlers from the young Sri Lankan brigade but is also prone to injuries. Capable of touching the 150kph mark, he combines speed with accuracy and has proved a handful in domestic cricket, troubling many batsmen with his pace. Like Lasith Malinga, Pradeep has an unorthodox whippy bowling action and is at the batsman all the time. A late starter, Pradeep began playing leather ball cricket only at the age of 20. He came into the limelight by emerging as the fastest bowler in a competition organised by a private company to unearth fast-bowling resources. Picked for the tour of England in 2011 where conditions were expected to suit his style of bowling, Pradeep picked up a knee injury treading on the ball during a warm-up match and had to return home without playing a Test. Later that year, he was forced to return home with a hamstring injury after bowling just ten balls in a practice game in South Africa, a further blow in his bid to nail down a permanent berth in the Sri Lankan squad.
