  Commentary

  • That's it from us, goodnight.

  • Kuldeep Yadav: I'm very happy as this is my first Man of the Match in T20I. The first couple of balls I saw what Finch was trying to do and set him up with an overpitched ball. I always think about wickets and that's what really matters to me and the team. I'm getting more confidence day by day. Performing well against a top side like Australia is great.

  • Virat Kohli: Our bowlers did well. The game can get tricky with a small chase like that. Bhuvi getting us the early breakthrough, Bumrah in the end overs and spinners in the middle overs. It's been a combined effort from all the players. Wristspinners can turn the game on their head. We are very happy with the bowlers right now. You need to execute your yorkers and you have to have a strong head to take their chances against these batsmen. You need to have the skill and strong head in T20I cricket. Dhawan was playing really well in Sri Lanka. He is an impact player and we need him to do well. Even if it was just 15 runs, it will help him to gain some confidence.

  • Player of the match - Kuldeep Yadav

  • David Warner: We have to be better next game. We didn’t deserve to have that chance (to win). We did well I think. I think the bowlers did okay. I don’t have an answer for why the batsmen are not doing well. It’s disappointing but we need to work it out.

  • Shikhar Dhawan: Feeling really happy that we won the game tonight. It was a short game but still, a lot of pressure was on us. Good to be back with the boys. It was a tough time for me and my family. I am thankful to God that we came out of it. It is a good start for me and this gives me confidence.

  • That's it, Virat Kohli's men have chased down the 49-run target (in six overs) with relative ease. Australia can't blame the DLS method after having scored just 118 for 8 in 18.4 overs. India have been phenomenal in the recent times. This is their seventh consecutive victory over Australia in this format.

  • You can't talk about Ranchi without the local legend MS Dhoni. In 2015, Sidhanta Patnaik revisited Dhoni’s life in Ranchi and Kharagpur before his tryst with stardom through the eyes of those who were a part of the journey:

  • MS Dhoni The Untold Stories

Ranchi to Kharagpur and beyond Team mates teachers mentors colleagues and friends share their memories of the champion

  • Weather update: "Quite a lot of flashes of lightning outside, and windy. No rain yet," says our correspondent, Nisha.

  • David Warner: Time to start fresh. Honoured to be the Australian captain. The pitch looks exactly like the one in the Test match, has a nice shine and the ball will come on nicely and it'll wear later. Was looking to bat first anyway. So will look to add some runs and play to our best.

  • Virat Kohli: We are going to bowl first. There's a bit of weather around, so we would like to know where we are placed. I don't think the pitch will be much better in the second innings but the weather is a massive factor. T20 is a format where you can't take any team for granted, let alone Australia, who are one of the bests. The beginning is very important, and one window here and there and Australia will pounce on us.

  • India Won the Toss & Elected to Field

  • “We’re gonna win so much, you may even get tired of winning. And you’ll say, ‘Please, please. It’s too much winning. We can’t take it anymore. It’s too much.’ And I’ll say, ‘No, it isn’t!'” That was Donald Trump ahead of the presidential elections in USA.If only Virat Kohli had warned the Indian public accordingly. The fans wouldn't have already started to get bored of India's winning habit, writes Nisha Shetty.

  • Indian cricket is headed to Promised Land but fans are getting bored

The extended dominance of Kohlis men and Australias lack of fight have left fans in Ranchi yearning for competition

  • Also making his return to the Indian squad is Ashish Nehra, the 38-year-old veteran, whose last international game came way back in February 2017. India will also welcome back Shikhar Dhawan who missed the ODI series to spend some time with his wife, who was ill.

  • Australia will be without their regular skipper Steven Smith, who had to return home after suffering a shoulder injury. Marcus Stoinis has been named as Smith’s replacement while David Warner will lead the side.

  • Australia have insisted the morale in their dressing room is also high, with five players — Jason Behrendorff, Dan Christian, Moises Henriques, Tim Paine, Andrew Tye — tasked with keeping it that way. But they will have their work cut out for them in a format that isn’t their strongest suit and where India lord over them with a 9-4 head-to-head record. Here's Nisha Shetty's preview:

  • Australia look to turn the tide in Ranchi

After losing the ODI series 4 1 visitors will hope for better results in the three match T20I series

  • Having lost the five-match One-Day International series 4-1, Australia will hope to end the white-ball tour on a high by showing more effort in this three-match series. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli's men would want to stamp their authority by leaving no pages open for the visitors.

  • Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the first Twenty20 International between India and Australia at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.

  Full commentary
