  Commentary

  • That's all, ladies and gents from our side for this game. See you tomorrow for the second match, which once again promises to be an exciting contest. Till then, bye bye!

  • Sarfraz Ahmed: I would like to thank God. We lost a wicket in the first game but Shehzad and Azam batted really well after that. New guys are also playing really well. I would like to thank the crowd, our forces and the PCB. I request everyone to come in large numbers and support both the teams.

  • Faf du Plessis: Good game. I think Pakistan played really well. In the end, we thought it was 20 runs too many. We got a lot of starts but not one kicked off. As I said, we need to kick on and get a big 50 or 60. Great to play in front of the Pakistan crowd.

  • Babar Azam (MoM): I practice according to the format. There was no pressure, the wicket was a bit slow though. I am working quite a lot on my fitness, and I am looking to work even more on that.

  • Player of the match - Babar Azam

  • A target of 198 was never going to be easy, and World XI were behind the asking rate throughout the chase. Though Sammy hit some big blows towards the end, it was too late by then. Spinners bowled beautifully for Pakistan, while fast bowlers mixed it up well during the death overs. A 20-run win for the hosts. Embraces and handshakes all around as players leave the field. The presentation ceremony coming up in a while. Stay tuned.

  • All the formalities are done. All the hype is over. It's time for cricket, although that isn't necessarily the most important thing today. This day is much more than cricket, especially for Pakistan. Let's hope it goes well. Play!

  • Here's all the build-up as we wait for the action to begin:

  • Fans throng Gaddafi as excitement hits fever pitch

Tight security no deterrent as Pakistan unites to celebrate revival of international cricket

Pakistan favourites as cricket returns home

Amir will miss out due to birth of first child but Sarfraz believes side has enough firepower to take on the World XI and build on Champions Trophy success

  • Sarfraz Ahmed: We would have batted first as well. The guys are very excited to play at home for the first time, in front of our home crowd. It's a great opportunity for us. Our focus is on the cricket though. We have a good, all-round team.

  • Faf du Plessis: We'll bowl first. It's pretty new for all of us, we haven't played in these conditions for a very very long time. It's easier to chase and gives us the opportunity to have a look at the wicket. It's a huge honour to be captain, it's a huge occasion for world cricket. It's not about ourselves, hope we can play a small part in bringing cricket back to Pakistan. NO egos in our team. it's a nice relaxed bunch of guys. We've got some good T20 players in our team.

  • World XI Won the Toss & Elected to Field

  • The captains will be out soon, stay tuned for the toss updates

  • It is a day full of excitement for the fans in the country, who have been deprived of international action, barring a short visit from Zimbabwe, for a long time - since March 2009 to be precise.

  • Hello and welcome to our coverage of the historic first Pakistan v World XI match from Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore

  Full commentary

Stay tuned.
