  Commentary

  • All smiles in the Indian camp, as they get together for a team photograph with the trophy. That's it from us tonight, but do join us in for the first of the three-match Twenty20 International series between the two sides which starts on November 1 in Delhi. Till then, Goodnight and Goodbye. Cheers!

  • Here's Hardik Worah's match report:

  • Bumrah builds on Rohit Kohli stand as India seal series

Pacer stymies New Zealand in deciding one dayer after batting duo hit centuries in high scoring encounter

  • Virat Kohli: It was a pretty close game. Credit to New Zealand. They forced us to play our best cricket in every game. Credit to the skill and character they possess. I decided I let the bowler do what he wants to do. With the dew like it was, sometimes it feels even 22 fielders won't be enough. The wicket eased out in the second half, and it was coming on beautifully. Our last 15 overs, the bowling slowed down, so we were probably 25 runs short. My aim is for the team to win the game and the series, regardless of how many runs I score. The records are tough to ignore as they keep popping up on the TV.

  • Rohit Sharma, MoM: Feels good when your team wins, and you contribute. Happy the way we played throughout the series. New Zealand were very competitive, and we had to be at our very best to win. Important to understand your game and play accordingly. Was seeing the pre-match analysis where they said my head was falling off, so I worked on it. That helped. My head was falling a bit and wasn't coming into the line. I enjoy playing today in Kanpur, have good memories personally, but not for the team. Good to change that. There was a lot of dew today, credit to the bowlers for sticking to the plans. Every hundred is special, but what I was working on came off well, and that's why I was happy.

  • Kane Williamson: Fantastic series. Some really good cricket played and good spirits. Credit to Virat, they were the better team, just. Lots of promising signs for us as well. The surface was good throughout. They were the better team on the day. That's the nature of the sport, but you have to be at your best to cross the line. Tom Latham batted with such clarity adapted well. Henry Nicholls, Ross Taylor too. Our seamers were very good. They performed well in most games. Santner is a good spinner I feel. It is tough to get two spinners in the side. We have Ish Sodhi and a few others.

  • Tom Latham: The change of role has been great. It's been a great series, played in good spirits. Coming here is tough, unfortunately, we couldn't get over the line. For us it was to stay in the game as deep as possible. They have quality seamers, wasn't meant to be today. The score India posted was really good. Credit to India. They played really well.

  • India won the series.

  • Player of the series - Virat Kohli

  • Player of the match - Rohit Sharma

  • Jasprit Bumrah: "I mostly try to keep my head calm. I should have gone to the stumps and broken it (on Latham's run-out), but I thought the batsman was closer. It was good that I could hit the stumps. Similar thing happened in England as well, that's what we were talking about. Was just focussing on the match and ball-by-ball and not trying about expectations. It was difficult to bowl because of dew. Bhuvi was excellent in the last matches, a few off-days do happen. Chahal was brilliant and hopefully, he continues to do well."

  • That was an excellent run chase by New Zealand to take the match where they did, but with 34 needed in 24, with seven wickets in hand, you have to say they have blown it. Munro started off his innings with a six off the very first ball and went about his business thereon being particularly severe on Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1 for 92 ) who had a rare off day. Williamson also was among the runs for the first time this series, but Yuzvendra Chahal brought India back into the game first castling Munro for 75 and then getting rid of the Kiwi skipper for 64. It was then that the game changed on its head, with Tom Latham (65 in 52) and Henry Nicholls (37 in 24) getting boundaries at will to get the Kiwis within touching distance. But, Jasprit Bumrah (3 for 47), as he has done in recent times was excellent with his yorkers, and with 14 needed to win off the last over ensured India record their seventh consecutive bilateral series win.

  Full commentary

  • Welcome back.

  • Will New Zealand be able to win their maiden bilateral series title in India? Join us in about 40 minutes to find out.

  • Right then, India end on a commanding 337 for 6, largely helped by two whirlwind knocks by Rohit Sharma (147) and Virat Kohli (113). At one point it seemed as if the hosts easily get past 350m, but some effective bowling at the death by Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee and Adam Milne ensured only 85 runs were scored in the last five overs. Rohit and Kohli were at their brilliant best adding a mammoth 230 runs for the second wicket. Kohli also reached 9000 runs in the process, the fastest to rach the landmark in ODIs. For New Zealand Santner, Southee and Milne all chipped in with two wickets each.

  • Anticipations high! Play to start in 10 minutes.

  • Virat Kohli: A pretty good surface. We would have probably bowled first as well. We will look to put up enough runs on the board and see how it goes from there. Few players had session yesterday, few had a day off. It has been a hectic season. These sort of games pep you up. You need to play your best cricket. The series has always been competitive against them. They don't do things to annoy you, but their body language is very good. They play in the right spirits. True gentleman off the field, on it as well. Same team.

  • Kane Williamson: We will have a bowl first. Looks like a good surface, more grass on the surface. Not like it will seam much. Want to make use of the new ball. There will be dew as well in the evening. The wickets do tend to be fairly good surfaces, so we jusṭ have to be at our best. It is a great opportunity, we haven't won here ever. We will try and put a good performance on the board. Same team today.

  • New Zealand eye history in repeat of 2016 clash

Exactly a year after squandering a chance to win their first ODI series in India Williamsons men are in a similar situation

  • With winter just settling in Kanpur, New Zealand will be pleasantly surprised with the weather, especially after the oppressive heat and humidity in Kolkata and Kanpur. The cooler weather will also assist the mediumpacers, helping them swing the ball so much more.

  • The last time these two teams were involved in a series finale was incidentally exactly a year back. It was India who helped by the legspin of Amit Mishra came up trumps on that occasion. Will New Zealand be able to turn the tide this time around? We will have to wait and watch.

  • Hello and Welcome one and all to this all-important clash between India and New Zealand and we are live from the Green Park Stadium, in Kanpur.
