  Commentary

  • Right, then an exciting series comes to an end. New Zealand were excellent throughout and go back with their heads held high. Thanks for joining us today. See you all soon. Cheers!

  • Virat Kohli: We were really happy to get a game. It was an exciting game, just like how the series has gone. The wicket was very damp, so we were nervous at the start. We thought if we got the run-rate up it will not be easy to score runs. We took a collective decision (of bowling Bhuvneshwar out early), and it turned out well. Hardik stepped up in the last over. When Hardik got hurt, I was like God-forbid if I have to bowl then what will happen to the series. We have won a few series and that makes us very happy. The support was very good.

  • Jassprit Bumrah: It was a good day, we wanted to stick to our basics and it worked well for us. I had a talk with Bhuvi about our plans, and yes it worked out well. After watching the first innings we thought of bowling slower balls, but it was not gripping much, so we had to stick to back of a length. (Bowling the penultimate over) Was not thinking too much, was just focussing ball by ball, and was trying to execute it.

  • Kane Williamson: Credit to the groundstaff, for getting the first ground ready. Once again a very tough match. Tricky surface runs first up were handy. India deserved to win here. Itwasa a great series, played in the right spirits. As soon as you ran your fingers over the ball, it became real tough to strike the ball. The surface was tricky. We have showed good fight throughout, but you have to be at the top of your game to win a series here. There are a number of strides forward for us a group. It is not easy here. We ended up getting a lot of experiemce. The fight thorughout is a real positive.

  • India won the series.

  • After a two and half hour delayed start in the third and final Twenty20 International, Thiruvananthapuram's Greenfield International Stadium got what it deserved, an absolute cracker! What a win this! Eight and a half an over in today's day and age is relatively easy, but at no point did India feel like they were not going to defend it. The surface was on the tougher side, but the bowlers held their own at all times pitching it in the right places. New Zealand were excellent all along, but they just needed the big hits, that they were unable to get.

  • Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan walk out to the middle to open the innings, Trent Boult to start the bowling attack.

  • Right, then, like Williamson said it is a short game, but a game all the same. Eight overs a side, so I am sure the batsman will look to go slam-bang right from the word go.

  • Virat Kohli: We would have bowled first as well. Looks like a damp wicket, we expect it to have some moisture. We will look to come out and put up a big score and then restrict them. The crowds have been really patient, and they deserceto see some action. Two changes for us; Axar, Siraj are out; Kuldeep, Manish come back in.

  • Kane Williamson: We are going to have a bowl first. We are keen to see what the surface does. The coin stuck so I am sure this will grip. Certainly, It is a short game but a game all the same. With the ball in hand, we will look to pick up early wickets. We have one change, Tim Southee replaces Adam Milne.

  • New Zealand Won the Toss & Elected to Field

  • What will the team combination be like? Ravi Shastri, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli are involved in an intense conversation. Only four bowlers needed, so the teams can pack themselves with batsmen. This could really get interesting.

  • Right then, great news coming from the ground. We have a match! 8 overs a side, and the game to start at 9:30. Toss at 9:15. Four bowlers can bowl two overs each.

  • All the covers have been removed and the players have started warming up, so that is a good sign. There is an inspection scheduled at 9:00 pm, so we might have a clarity on the whole situation soon.

  • Some good news coming in from Thiruvananthapuram. The covers have been removed from the square and the groundsmen have started their job of clearing up the ground in full force, as the umpires walk out for an inspection.

  • And just to get you updated, we have officially started to lose overs now. So, for every four minutes lost we lose one over.

  • The groundsmen have returned to the ground with their mops and buckets. The drizzle is still on, but it is very faint. Hoping for some action soon.

  • Not much happening, sadly. The drizzle is still on, and the covers firmly in place. The groundsmen have also gone back. The Indians, however, seem to be enjoying themselves playing a game of football.

  • Until the time we wait for the rains to stop, how about listening to R Kaushik and Shamya Dasgupta discuss the burning question about whether Is it time to look beyond Dhoni in T20Is?

  • PODCAST Is Dhoni surplus to requirements in T20Is

It might be time to look beyond the veteran wicketkeeper batsman for the shortest format

  • Nothing much to update, with the ground still covered and the drizzle still steady. The Indians are enjoying a game of football, as the spectators look on in anticipation.

  • The news coming in from Thiruvananthapuram is that the constant drizzle is still on, and that means the Toss has been delayed.

  • New Zealand have been a tough nut to crack ever since they landed on Indian shores. They were exemplary in the three-match ODI series, giving the Indians a tough fight. And, after a disappointing opening T20I, sprung back strongly in the second game to level the series 1-1.

  • Here's the Preview

  • New Zealand eye chance to create history

Rain could play spoilsport in series decider but India will be favourites despite loss in second T20I

  • Ahead of the game most of the talk was about the rains, and there has been a consistent drizzle to greet the players in the beautiful city of Thiruvananthapuram. It isn't raining too hard the moment, but the forecast for the evening isn't too great.

  • Hello and Welcome to the all-important decider between India and New Zealand, and we are live from Thiruvananthapuram.
