The Sanath Jayasuriya-led Sri Lankan national selection panel will step down after the completion of India’s tour of Sri Lanka on September 6, it emerged on Tuesday (August 29).

Apart from Jayasuriya, the panel comprises Ranjith Madurasinghe, Romesh Kaluwitharana, Asanka Gurusinha and Eric Upashantha, and they were given a six-month extension in July this year. But the continued run of bad performances of the national team, and then the incident of fans expressing their ire by throwing bottles on to the ground during the loss in the third One-Day International on Sunday, have led to a rethink on the part of the selectors.
