Kusal Mendis, the in-form top-order batsman, will replace the injured Kusal Janith Perera in Sri Lanka’s Twenty20 International squad that will take on Bangladesh in a two-match series later this week.

Perera, originally named in the 15-man squad, was ruled out of the series after failing to recover from a side strain sustained during the triangular series in Bangladesh last month. Perera had returned home for recuperation and was expected to come back to Bangladesh with the T20 specialists who linked up with the team on Monday (February 12).

Mendis, who made a comeback to the national side during the tri-series, was in excellent touch during the Test matches, making 271 runs in the two games with a highest of 196. He has previously played eight T20Is, making just 74 runs at an average of 9.25.
