  Commentary

  • That' it from us guys from this encounter. We hoped you enjoyed our coverage. We look forward to your company in the future games. Until then, Cheers!

  • So that was a handy win for Delhi, something for their fans to smile about. They bowled really well to keep a team like Chennai on their toes and have posed some nice questions for them. You can read our report below:

  • Delhi strangle Chennai for rare win

Mishra and Lamichhane spin a web around Chennai batsmen to defend 162 successfully

  • Player of the match - Harshal Patel

  • Man of the Match, Harshal Patel - (On asked if batting was difficult or bowling) Think bowling was more difficult on this pitch, especially how the ground and the conditions are. It's about consistency, you can bowl one good over and one over can you lose the game. It is about being consistent with the ball, four-over spells are more important than a 25-run cameo. (On his batting) I was just watching the ball really well, he (Bravo) has a very good slower ball and I didn't want to get deceived so I was just watching the ball. I want to win games for my side which is the only thing important to me. I have been studying my own game, It was about not trying to do anything out of my capabilities and I'm glad I could execute my skills well today.

  • Shreyas Iyer - We were craving for the victory. Coming against the team on top of the table is very satisfying. Our batting, bowling, fielding all lived up to the expectations. It wasn't easy to bat on this wicket, Harshal Patel coming in to bat at No.7, not expected from him, but the way he batted was really good, he also bowled well. In regards to preparation, we were never lacking. It is just that we could not execute well. Whichever matches we won, all three departments clicked together.

  • MS Dhoni - The wicket got difficult towards the second half. Nobody was middling the ball we batted from 1 to 8 today. It is difficult to predict how the wicket behaves. If we would have batted better, we needed someone to get the extra runs. Not worried much, since you must know the reason why it went wrong. We know the reasons so yes disappointed with the loss but we know what to improve on. It's important to not look at the points table and just keep improving. We need some of the batsman in the middle overs to get a partnership. We need to get our death bowling sorted out, we still have a game to go before the eliminator. We will try to manage it. At the end of day, you can give many plans but some times you have to shuffle the bowlers. Somebody may have an off day, so that is when someone has to chip in.

  • Delhi Daredevils won by 34 runs

  • A clinical bowling display from Delhi to win this game. It was the stand between Patel and Shankar which first gave them the par score on this deck and then the bowlers bowled brilliantly to never let Chennai get away. And despite the fifty from Rayudu, Chennai fell short of the target.

  • Right then! We're not far from the start of the game. Should be interesting to see how the deck behaves, the average first innings total here has been 185. Delhi will aim that many at least? Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer come out to open the batting. Chennai start the proceedings with Deepak Chahar. Here we go...

  • So both teams have made changes. Chennai have replaced David Willey with Lungi Ngidi while Delhi have brought back Glenn Maxwell and Avesh Khan for Junior Dala and Jason Roy. Interesting from Delhi, they are playing with only three foreign internationals.

  • Shreyas Iyer - Would have loved to bowl too. They are an experienced side and we will hope to put up a good show. We have to come out and execute, that is what we were lacking in the bowling.

  • MS Dhoni - It is a difficult ground to contain. There are chances of wicket deteriorating but we have to take that risk and if we can restrict them to a decent total, hopefully we can chase it down. What is important is to keep learning and improving and also take care of our fitness. We don't want to miss our key players in the eliminator.
